Visby, located in the western part of Gotland Island, is a city that strongly retains its medieval character, surrounded by a 3.4 km wall, and is one of Sweden's World Heritage sites. It is said to be the inspiration for the "town by the sea" where the 13-year-old witch lands from the sky in the Studio Ghibli anime Kiki's Delivery Service.
